Liaises With: Assistant Manager, Kitchen Manager, Café Supervisors, Front-of-House Staff
Immediate Subordinates: Assistant Manager, Kitchen Manager, Café Supervisors, Front-of-House Waiters, Kitchen Staff

Key Objectives:

  • Ensure the seamless running of the café, delivering high standards of service while maximizing revenue and minimizing costs.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, providing a positive environment and consistent, friendly service.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Business Strategy & Revenue
    • Implement business strategies with Kitchen Manager support.
    • Maximize revenue opportunities and minimize operational costs.
    • Initiate and implement promotional activities to boost sales.
  2. Guest Experience
    • Consistently exceed guest expectations.
    • Develop a culture of customer feedback and implement actions to improve guest experience.
  3. Team Management
    • Develop a high-performing, motivated team with clear goals.
    • Train staff on standards, procedures, and responsibilities.
    • Conduct regular briefings, handovers, and meetings to maintain communication.
  4. Operational Efficiency
    • Manage café operations, including sales, conversions, and stock control.
    • Perform and review monthly stock-takes and manage variances.
    • Control food and beverage margins, maintaining or exceeding targets.
  5. Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Protect guest and staff health, safety, and well-being.
    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (licensing, labor laws).
    • Oversee hygiene standards, food storage, and portion control in accordance with health requirements.
  6. HR & Staff Development
    • Manage recruitment, performance appraisals, and training needs.
    • Handle HR matters, disciplinary actions, and grievances in consultation with directors.
    • Ensure staffing is efficient, with well-planned duty rotas and no unnecessary overtime.
  7. Financial Management
    • Review financial information for proactive decision-making.
    • Manage daily banking, reconciling sales, and petty cash.
    • Achieve set revenue, budget, and cost targets.
  8. Brand Development & Marketing
    • Develop a strong brand identity and leverage digital platforms.
    • Organize events and promotions to enhance customer experience and revenue.

Job Specifications for Café Manager:

  1. Education & Qualifications:
    • Diploma in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A degree is an added advantage.
    • Certification in food safety and hygiene (preferred).
  2. Experience:
    • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in café or restaurant management.
    • Proven track record in managing a team, improving service standards, and handling café operations.
    • Experience with GAAP or other point of sale systems (GAAP preferred).
    • Experience in stock control, food and beverage management, and financial reporting.
